If you love Bangkok — especially its seafood — you’ve probably heard of Somboon Seafood.

Established back in 1969, this famous seafood restaurant has captured the taste buds of countless Bangkok locals with its signature dish, the legendary Fried Curry Crab (ปูผัดผงกะหรี่, pronounced Poo-Phad-Phong-Karee).

Word of good food travels fast — and in Somboon Seafood’s case, its delicious flavors spread fast across the city, drawing more and more visitors. Over the years, it has truly become one of Bangkok’s must-visit culinary landmarks.

Search “Bangkok must-eat restaurants” on Google or flip through any trusted Bangkok travel guide — you’ll always find Somboon Seafood proudly listed.

In 2018, Somboon Seafood was also recognized by the Michelin Guide Bangkok with a Michelin The Plate recommendation. So during my recent Bangkok trip, there was absolutely no excuse not to stop by and taste it for myself!

Somboon Seafood’s Main Branch and All Locations: How to Get There

Currently, there are eight Somboon Seafood branches across central Bangkok — none are located on the outskirts, near train tracks, or outside the city. It’s important to note this because Somboon Seafood is so popular among independent travelers and tour groups that there have been numerous reports of counterfeit “Somboon” restaurants targeting unsuspecting tourists.

These scams usually happen when tourists take a taxi or hire a driver to Somboon Seafood, but some drivers partner with fake restaurants that have deceptively similar names or spellings. Many travelers have unknowingly ended up eating at these imitation spots instead of the real Somboon Seafood.

So below is a complete list of all eight official Somboon Seafood branches (including the main branch) along with detailed directions — so you can enjoy the real deal without worry.

Many branches are conveniently located near BTS Skytrain or MRT stations, so you don’t have to rely on taxis or private cars, which helps reduce the risk of scams.

If you’re planning to visit a branch that isn’t directly accessible by BTS or MRT — like the main Bantadthong branch — it’s best to copy the correct address below and use the Grab App for a safe ride. Simply paste the right branch address, and you’ll be on your way without any hassle.

Alright, let’s break down each Somboon Seafood location in Bangkok — here’s where you can find them:

  1. Main Branch (Bantadthong)
  2. Surawong Branch (Michelin The Plate)
  3. Ratchada Branch
  4. Udomsuk Branch
  5. Samyan Branch
  6. Central Embassy Branch
  7. Siam Square One Branch
  8. Central World Branch

The Bantadthong location, widely known as the Main Branch of Somboon Seafood, sits between MRT Hua Lamphong Station and BTS National Stadium (W1) Station.

While it’s technically midway between these two stations, it’s definitely much closer to the BTS National Stadium. If you plan to dine at the Main Branch, it’s best to take the BTS to National Stadium Station and walk the rest of the way — it’s an easy stroll. Here’s a quick step-by-step:

  • Take the BTS to National Stadium (W1) Station.
  • Exit at Gate 2 and head down Rama 1 Rd..
  • Walk about 450 meters until you see the large Tesco Lotus on the opposite side — that’s your cue to turn left.
  • Continue walking for about 4 more minutes. You’ll find the Main Somboon Seafood on your left.

The total distance from BTS National Stadium is roughly 700 meters, which takes about 11–12 minutes at an easy pace.

If you prefer to ride with Grab instead, here’s the address info:

Somboon Seafood Main Branch (Bantadthong/สาขาบรรทัดทอง)
Open daily: 4:00 PM – 11:30 PM (16:00–23:30)

Nearby highlights around BTS National Stadium:
As soon as you step out of the BTS National Stadium Station, you’ll spot the famous MBK Center shopping mall. Just across from MBK, you’ll find Siam Discovery and more mega malls stretching down to Siam Center, Siam Square One, and Siam Paragon. If you’re dining at the Main Branch, why not plan a mini shopping spree in the area? One BTS ride covers multiple hot spots!

2. Somboon Seafood Surawong Branch (Michelin The Plate)

The Surawong Branch is Somboon Seafood’s second location, open since 1990 — so it’s got plenty of history too!

This is the branch featured in the Michelin Guide Bangkok. You can check out their official listing here: Michelin Guide Bangkok - Somboon Seafood (Surawong).

Michelin short review:
“Since 1969, their legendary Fried Curry Crab has secured a place on the global food map. Somboon Seafood wins diners over with fresh ingredients, flawless cooking, and fair prices. Currently, they have seven branches (technically eight, as the last one opened after this guide was published). Surawong is the largest, seating up to 200 guests and offering special group sets for 10 or more. Besides the curry crab, don’t miss the glass noodle clay pot with prawns — it’s outstanding!”

To get here, you’ll also take the BTS plus a decent walk. Here’s how:

  • Take the BTS to Sala Daeng Station. If you prefer the MRT, get off at Si Lom Station — these two stations are very close, so the walking route is the same from either one.
  • Once you exit, walk straight along Si Lom Rd.. You’ll pass Silom Complex Shopping Center, the famous Silom Night Market, and Patpong Night Market (though by day it’s easy to miss) plus the Bangkok Bank Headquarters.
  • Keep going until you reach a big intersection. Turn right onto Naradhiwat Rajanagarindra Rd.
  • Continue straight down Naradhiwat Rajanagarindra Rd. all the way to the end. You’ll see the Red Planet Bangkok Surawong Hotel at the end — this road meets Surawong Rd. here. Cross the street to the opposite side of the hotel (don’t cross over to the hotel side — stay across).
  • Once you’ve crossed, keep walking and you’ll spot Somboon Seafood’s bright red crab sign in no time!

The total distance from BTS Sala Daeng Station to Somboon Seafood Surawong Branch is about 1 kilometer. If you take it easy, you’ll be there in around 12–13 minutes.

If you’d rather Grab it, here’s all you need:

This branch sits in the heart of the Si Lom area, home to countless great eats — though once you’re here for Somboon Seafood, you may have to save the rest for next time. Si Lom is also one of Bangkok’s top three red-light districts. After dinner, the Patpong Night Market nearby comes alive — perfect for an evening stroll. And right next to BTS Sala Daeng, you’ll find Silom Complex Shopping Mall. Pop up to the second floor for an After You dessert before heading back to your hotel on the Skytrain!

3. Somboon Seafood Ratchada Branch

The Ratchada Branch opened in 1996. Although it’s called “Ratchada,” it’s still quite a distance away from the popular Ratchada Train Night Market.

Getting here is super convenient — just take the MRT to Huai Khwang Station, and use Exit 3. As soon as you step out, Somboon Seafood is right there next to the exit — you won’t even have to cross the street!

If you’re dining at this branch, there’s no need for taxis — the MRT is the fastest and easiest option. This was actually where I had my first Somboon experience! After dinner, you can also check out the very local Huai Khwang Night Market and pay a visit to the famous Ganesh Shrine nearby.

What’s Nearby Ratchada Branch:
The MRT Huai Khwang area is also one of Bangkok’s top three red-light districts. From Somboon, head right and you’ll reach the local Huai Khwang Night Market and the bustling Ganesh Shrine — the later it gets, the more people come to pray!
Head left, though, and you’ll find a string of well-known Thai-style bathhouses. Honestly, I didn’t even realize there were so many “hidden” spots here until friends told me afterwards — the area’s pretty low-key if you’re just here for the food!

4. Somboon Seafood Udomsuk Branch

Walking map for Somboon Seafood Udomsuk Branch
Walking map for Somboon Seafood Udomsuk Branch

Opened in 2001, the Udomsuk Branch is probably the farthest from Bangkok’s city center. Udomsuk is a residential area on the city’s eastern side, so you’ll see fewer tourists here. Many independent travelers usually ride the BTS out this way, then take a taxi to places like Srinakarin Railway Night Market, which means the neighborhood itself isn’t packed with visitors — you won’t find as many travel guides covering this area.

To dine at this branch, take the BTS to Udomsuk Station, then you’ll still have about 3.7 kilometers to walk to Somboon Seafood Udomsuk Branch.

3.7 kilometers is quite a hike — at a leisurely pace, it’ll easily take 45–50 minutes! T_T So it’s definitely best to grab a taxi or use Grab unless you’re staying nearby.

5. Somboon Seafood Samyan Branch

The Samyan Branch opened in 2008 and is super easy to reach — just hop on the MRT to Sam Yan Station (also spelled Samyan or Sam Yan). Take Exit 2 and you’ll immediately see the large Chamchuri Square mall. Somboon Seafood is right on the ground floor — you basically step out of the station and you’re there!

This branch also opens earlier than the others — starting at 10:30 AM — so it’s a great pick if you’d like to enjoy Somboon Seafood for lunch.

Is This the Original Branch?
Many people think the Samyan Branch is the original Somboon Seafood. It’s partly true — when Somboon first opened in 1969, it was indeed located in Sam Yan. But in 1991, when its lease with Chulalongkorn University ended, the restaurant moved to the Bantadthong location, which is now known as the main branch. In 2008, they returned to the Sam Yan area and opened this new branch in Chamchuri Square.

What’s Nearby Samyan Branch:
Step out of MRT Sam Yan Station and you’ll find yourself at Thailand’s top university, Chulalongkorn University. This is a vibrant student district packed with affordable eats and cafés. The campus is huge — you can walk straight through from Sam Yan all the way to BTS Siam Station (though it’s quite far!). If you’re visiting for lunch, it’s worth taking a stroll through the campus afterwards — it’s beautiful!

6. Somboon Seafood Central Embassy Branch

In 2014, to celebrate Somboon Seafood’s 45th anniversary, they opened two new branches inside major department stores — one of which is inside Central Embassy, Bangkok’s luxury mall.

This branch is located on the 5th floor of Central Embassy — easy to find! To get there, simply take the BTS to Phloen Chit Station (E2). Once you exit, the upscale mall will be right in front of you — super convenient!

7. Somboon Seafood Siam Square One Branch

Continuing the celebration of their 45th anniversary in 2014, Somboon Seafood opened another branch inside Siam Square One, right in the heart of Bangkok’s most popular shopping area.

The Siam Square One Branch sits on the 4th floor. Take the escalator up and you’ll find it tucked around one of the corners (you might have to walk around a bit to spot it!).

Getting there is super easy — just take the BTS to Siam Station. Once you step out, you’ll see Siam Square One on one side and Siam Paragon on the other. You can’t miss it!

8. Somboon Seafood Central World Branch

The final Somboon Seafood branch on this list is also located inside a shopping mall — the Central World Branch, which opened in 2018. You’ll find it on the 6th floor of Central World; it’s spacious and easy to spot.

How do you get there? The easiest way is to take the BTS to Chit Lom Station. Use Exit 1 — as soon as you step out, you’ll see Central World right in front of you. The skywalk connects directly to the mall entrance, so you don’t even need to walk outside!

After feasting on fresh seafood at Somboon, you can head up to the 7th floor for a famous dessert at After You — the perfect sweet ending!

What’s Nearby These Mall Branches:
This entire golden shopping district really needs no introduction. Just step out of any of these three BTS stations and you’ll be surrounded by Bangkok’s biggest malls: starting from MBK Center and heading towards Chit Lom, you’ll find Siam Discovery, Siam Center, Siam Square One, Siam Paragon, Central World, Gaysorn Village, and Big C. So after your hearty Somboon meal, you can easily walk it off while shopping up a storm!

Which Branch Is the Best? Tips on Choosing Where to Eat

Some branches serve crab claws pre-cracked; others provide tools so you can crack them yourself
Some branches serve crab claws pre-cracked; others provide tools so you can crack them yourself

Many foodies and Bangkok locals say the Main Branch (Bantadthong) serves the best version of Somboon Seafood’s signature dishes, with the Ratchada Branch (Huai Khwang) often named second best.

Meanwhile, the Michelin Guide Bangkok specifically recommends the Surawong Branch.

Personally, I haven’t eaten at every single branch, so I can’t say for sure which is the absolute best. From my own experience, my first visit was at the Ratchada Branch — and it was incredible, no doubt! The second time, I tried the Siam Square One Branch and honestly, the taste wasn’t noticeably different. Even if there is a subtle difference, once that rich curry aroma hits you, any tiny variation melts away in the deliciousness.

The only minor difference? The small portion of fried curry crab at Ratchada was chopped up but not cracked, while at Siam Square One they also cracked the claws for you — so it’s way easier to eat (especially handy for people like me who aren’t good with crab crackers). Maybe it’s because this branch is in a busy shopping mall — faster to eat means quicker turnover!

Price-wise, both locations were identical — there’s no markup just because you’re dining in a prime shopping district.

As for the service, both branches were fine. Like many classic Chinese-style restaurants, the staff might not always have big smiles plastered on their faces, but they’re friendly, professional, and helpful once you interact. You’re here for amazing food, right? No need to sweat the small stuff!

So when choosing which branch to visit, you really don’t need to stress over “which is best” — unless you’re a Main Branch purist or a Michelin hunter, just pick whichever branch is most convenient for you.

One last tip: some branches — especially the ones inside major shopping malls — can get really busy at peak times. If you’re going during dinner hours (like 6:00–7:30 PM), be prepared to wait. At other branches, especially on weekdays, you’ll likely walk right in with no problem.

If you can, aim for off-peak hours — go a bit earlier or later than the dinner rush and you probably won’t have to queue at all. Or better yet, book a table in advance. Speaking of which, here’s how to make a reservation at Somboon Seafood.

Somboon Seafood Reservation Tips & Reminders

Some friends often ask: do you really need to make a reservation?

Somboon Seafood does offer table reservations, but it’s not strictly necessary. All the times I’ve gone, I didn’t book in advance — I just showed up and got a table. The Ratchada Branch, for example, is huge with three floors, so there’s almost always a spot.

Even at the Siam Square One Branch, we only waited about 10 minutes for a table — though we did eat later in the evening, around 8:00 PM.

Still, booking ahead does have perks. First, you won’t have to wait, which is great if you’re dining with older family members or kids. Second, you can request a private room. If they have one available, they’ll happily arrange it for larger groups.

How to Book a Table at Somboon Seafood

First, head over to the Somboon Seafood official website. On the homepage, you’ll see the “Reservation” icon right at the top — just click it to get started.

Fill out the booking form step by step, double-check your details, and hit “Confirm.” That’s it — your reservation request will be sent!

Somboon Seafood Official: Reservation Page

After you submit your reservation, it typically takes about 3–5 days (a bit slow!) to receive a confirmation.

On the day of your meal, remember to bring your confirmation email along with your empty stomach — you’ll need it to check in with the staff.

Because replies can take a few days, it’s best to book well in advance — otherwise, you can always take your chances and walk in. Honestly, you’ll probably get a table anyway (most people do!).
